Implementation of community corrections programs in Kansas is described as mandated by the Kansas Community Corrections Act of 1978.
Abstract
All 105 Kansas counties have community services available through either an independent community corrections program, a regional, or multicounty program or through a contract for community correctional services with another program. Services and resources provided include intensive supervision, restitution payments, community service work, substance abuse counseling and treatment referrals, alcohol and drug testing, employment and education, budgeting, screening and evaluation. The Intensive Supervision program is developed within parameters of a 4-phase program which motivates the clients to engage in activities and treatment programs that promote the development and maintenance of productive lifestyles within the community. Of the current 24 community corrections programs in Kansas, 12 serve 3 or more counties. Options used by these programs to monitor the multicounty areas include Intensive Supervision Officers, radio and telephone-equipped vehicles for staff, surveillance officers, and telemonitoring of "at risk" offenders.
