THE POLICIES OF THE KANSAS DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS ARE OUTLINED, WITH ATTENTION TO INSTITUTIONAL PROGRAMS, FACILITIES, ADMINISTRATION, AND SERVICES TO INMATES.
Abstract
THE MANUAL IS BASED ON THE DEPARTMENT'S ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURES AND THE EXISTING PORTIONS OF THE RULES AND REGULATIONS WHICH ARE SUPERSEDED BY THE ADOPTION OF THE MANUAL. STATEMENTS ON THE GENERAL ADMINISTRATIVE POLICIES OF THE DEPARTMENT INCLUDE SECTIONS ON POLICY FORMATION, LAW SUITS AGAINST PERSONNEL, RELEASE OF NEWS TO THE MEDIA, AND USE OF DEPARTMENT VEHICLES. THE SECTIONS CONCERNING INMATE MANAGEMENT DISCUSS THE ADMISSION AND PLACEMENT OF INMATES, THE APPLICATION OF JAIL CREDIT TIME, THE APPEARANCE STANDARDS FOR INMATES, AND THE USE OF FORCE ON INMATES. INCLUDED UNDER THE TOPIC OF OPERATIONAL SERVICES ARE THE SECTIONS ON MAIL SERVICES FOR INMATES, RELIGIOUS PRACTICE IN INSTITUTIONS, AND THE MAINTENANCE OF INMATE FUNDS. SECTIONS ON FACILITIES MANAGEMENT AND INSTITUTIONAL PROGRAMS PROVIDE INFORMATION ON SAFETY AND SANITARY PRACTICES, DISCIPLINARY ADMINISTRATION, AND INSTITUTIONAL ACADEMIC EDUCATION. THE MANUAL ALSO INCLUDES STATEMENTS CONCERNING THE EMPLOYMENT OF PERSONNEL IN THE CORRECTIONS DEPARTMENT. (TWK)
