THE ANNUAL REPORT OF KENTUCKY'S ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE OF THE COURTS FOR CALENDAR YEAR 1976 IS SUBMITTED. THE REPORT REFLECTS REFORM IN THE STATE'S JUDICIAL SYSTEM AND COURT IMPROVEMENTS.
Abstract
IN 1976, THE KENTUCKY SUPREME COURT ASSUMED ADMINISTRATIVE AUTHORITY OVER THE COURT OF JUSTICE AND THROUGH THE ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE OF THE COURTS, CARRIED OUT MANDATES OF JUDICIAL LEGISLATION. AN ADDITIONAL APPELLATE COURT, THE COURT OF APPEALS, WAS ESTABLISHED. DURING 1976, KENTUCKY BECAME THE FIRST STATE TO ELIMINATE COMMERCIAL BONDSMEN AND MANDATE UNIFORM PROVISIONS OF PRETRIAL RELEASE STATEWIDE. THE ANNUAL REPORT CONTAINS SECTIONS DEALING WITH THE EVOLUTION OF KENTUCKY'S JUDICIAL SYSTEM FROM 1972 TO 1976, THE COURT OF JUSTICE (SUPREME COURT, COURT OF APPEALS, CIRCUIT COURTS, AND DISTRICT COURTS), THE ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE OF THE COURTS, THE IMPLEMENTATION OF JUDICIAL LEGISLATION, PRETRIAL RELEASE SERVICES, JUDICIAL COMMISSIONS, COURT FINANCING, PROGRAMS AND PROJECTS OF THE ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE OF THE COURTS, AND JUDICIAL STATISTICS (APPELLATE COURTS AND CIRCUIT COURTS).
