Abstract
THE LESSON PLANS INCLUDE OUTLINES OF MATERIAL TO BE COVERED, HANDOUTS WITH HISTORIES OR QUIZZES, REFERENCES, AND OTHER INSTRUCTIONAL AIDS. THE COURSE IS DESIGNED TO COVER A 5-DAY PERIOD. THE FIRST DAY INCLUDES SESSIONS ON JAIL HISTORY, THE KENTUCKY COURT SYSTEM, THE KENTUCKY CRIMINAL CODE, THE COMMUNITY AND ITS RESOURCES, THE GRADUAL RELEASE PROGRAM, REGIONAL JAIL DEVELOPMENT, AND THE KENTUCKY JAILER'S ASSOCIATION. NEXT, ADMISSION AND RELEASE PROCEDURES FOR JAILS ARE DETAILED, ALONG WITH A SESSION ON OPERATIONAL SECURITY. THE THIRD DAY ADDRESSES SANITATION, FOOD SERVICES, SUPERVISION, AND DISCIPLINE. STAFF SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY ASSOCIATION (OSHA) PROCEDURES ARE OUTLINED ON THE FOURTH DAY. FINALLY, EMERGENCY PROCEDURES, RECORDKEEPING AND DOCUMENTATION, AND MEDICAL SERVICES ARE DISCUSSED. EACH LESSON PLAN OUTLINE PROVIDES AN AREA FOR NOTES AND SPECIFIES THE AMOUNT OF TIME NEEDED FOR THE TOPIC AREA. (MHP)
