Kentucky's Task Force on Drunk Driving presents recommendations dealing with public education, traffic law enforcement, licensing, prosecutorial and judicial policy, and rehabilitation and treatment.
Abstract
An ongoing public information and education campaign against drunk driving should be established and alcohol and drug education in the schools should be emphasized. Training in the handling of driving-under-the-influence (DUI) cases for judges, prosecutors, and police should be increased. Law enforcement officers should be allowed to make warrantless arrests for accidents suspected of being caused by DUI. Driving with a blood alcohol concentration of .10 percent or more should be an offense. Other recommendations propose that there be a required review of a person's driving history record prior to sentencing in DUI cases and that the court record show the reason for dismissal or amendment of a DUI charge. Additional recommendations are given. Fourteen footnotes are provided.
