DRAMATIZED PRESENTATIONS OF POSSIBLE KIDNAPPING AND EXTORTION ATTEMPTS ARE SHOWN TO PROVIDE EXECUTIVES WITH FOREWARNINGS OF THE TACTICS OF CRIMINALS AND TO ENCOURAGE PREPARATION AGAINST VICTIMIZATION.
Abstract
THIS FILM FOR BUSINESS EXECUTIVES AND THEIR FAMILIES INDICATES THE THREAT POSED BY PROFESSIONAL CRIMINALS, TERRORISTS, AND PSYCHOPATHS. KIDNAPPING AND EXTORTION ARE PRESENTED NOT AS SPONTANEOUS CRIMES, BUT AS REQUIRING SOME PREPLANNING BY THE PERPETRATORS. LIKEWISE, THE SUCCESSFUL PREVENTION OR RESOLUTION OF SUCH A CRIME IS SHOWN TO REQUIRE PLANNING ON THE PART OF THE EXECUTIVES AND THEIR EMPLOYEES. IN THE PRESENTATIONS, THE CHARACTERS ARE SEEN AS HAVING MADE VARYING DEGREES OF PREPARATION FOR THEIR VICTIMIZATION, RANGING FROM MINIMALLY SECURING THE PERSONAL RESIDENCE TO ARRANGING FOR THE USE OF BAIT MONEY IF RANSOM IS DEMANDED. EXECUTIVES ARE ENCOURAGED TO COMBAT THE THREAT OF VICTIMIZATION BY ASSESSING THEIR OWN SECURITY RISKS AND ACTING TO MINIMIZE THE HAZARDS. LOCAL POLICE AGENCIES SHOULD BE CONTACTED BEFORE EMERGENCIES OCCUR TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE IN SECURITY PREPARATIONS. ANY SECURITY SYSTEM SHOULD HAVE THE PRIOR APPROVAL OF THE CORPORATION ESPECIALLY IN SUCH MATTERS AS INDEMNIFICATION AGAINST LAWSUIT AND THE PAYMENT OF RANSOM. BECAUSE OF THE IMPORTANCE OF TIME DURING A CRISIS, EMPLOYEES SHOULD BE GIVEN ADVANCE TRAINING SO THAT THEY WILL PROPERLY REACT. NEVERTHELESS, INDIVIDUALS MAY FAIL TO FOLLOW SECURITY PROCEDURES, AND THE ABILITY OF EMPLOYEES TO OPERATE AS A TEAM AND COMPENSATE FOR MISTAKES IS IMPORTANT. THE FILM IS SUPPLEMENTED BY AN 'EXECUTIVE PROTECTION ACTION KIT' WHICH CONTAINS A LEADER'S GUIDE AND HOSTAGE HANDBOOK FOR TRAINING PROGRAMS. (TWK)
