This comprehensive safety education program for Grades K-5 provides children with skills, information, self-confidence, and support that will enhance their self-esteem and help prevent abduction and sexual abuse.
Abstract
Rather than teaching children to be afraid or antisocial, the program teaches them how to respond to situations, make safe decisions, and get help from peers and adults. The program also provides opportunities for parental involvement, and teaches parents what they can do to help keep their children safe. Using games, songs, role playing, and projects, the program emphasizes that children should use their brains, train their bodies, trust their feelings, and remember their friends. The program includes a teacher's guide containing objectives, background information, steps for preparation and activity guidelines, scripted lessons, and facsimiles of student activity sheets. Included is a videotape that presents many situations in which children can practice and apply safety skills and examples of the most common tricks used to exploit children. A videotape guide explains how to use the video most effectively. A parents' guide provides basic safety and prevention tips, a colorful poster, and stickers.
