This volume uses available measures of the well-being of children and presents current data and recent trends at the national and State levels.
Abstract
The nine major indicators used are the percentage of low-birth-weight babies, the infant mortality rate, child mortality for ages 1-14, the violent death rate for adolescents ages 15-19, the percentage of all births that are to single teenagers, the juvenile custody rate for ages 10-15, the percentage graduating from high school, the percentage of children in poverty, and the percentage of children in single-parent families. Data are also presented on median family incomes, the incomes of the top and bottom fifths of families, and income by race. Figures, tables, methodological notes, and list of sources by subject
