This video aims to deter youth from delinquent acts that warrant arrest and formal justice processing by portraying the consequences of juveniles offenses not only in the present but also in future career aspirations.
Abstract
The video uses a combination of dramatizations, documentary video footage, and comments by delinquent youth and juvenile justice professionals to emphasize the consequences of various delinquent behaviors. The central message of the video is that delinquent acts such as drug use, drunk driving, shoplifting, other theft offenses, and gang involvement will lead to arrest, possible incarceration, and a juvenile record that is likely to be a detriment in securing various jobs in the future. Dramatizations focus on some of the particular consequences that flow from various delinquent acts. One segment of the video addresses gang-related delinquency in Maricopa County (Phoenix), AZ. Through comments by gang members, the criminogenic gang subculture of violence and crime is documented, and criminal justice professionals who have dealt with gang members talk about the bleak futures that gang members face, including incarceration and death on the streets.
