This 1993 Annual Report of the King County Superior Court (Washington) focuses on projects designed to increase access to the courts, 1993 caseload statistics, and court personnel.
Abstract
The theme for this report is "Enhancing Access to Justice." Five programs and projects aimed at enhancing access to the court are profiled in this report. The first summarizes the planning for the Regional Justice Center, a full-service Superior Court facility scheduled to open in Kent in 1997. Two projects related to jury management -- jury automation and the One Trial-Two Day term of jury service -- aim to improve the public's ability to participate in the court process. The Courthouse Facilitator project provides procedural information on family law cases to people not represented by attorneys. Another project is the mediation orientation class, developed by Family Court Services, which provides helpful information on the mediation process for couples planning a divorce. The remaining project involves court efforts to promote diversity among court staff and volunteers. Statistical tables show caseload information for 1993. These statistics encompass judicial caseload, trial activity, hearing activity, civil caseload, criminal caseload, juvenile caseload, family law caseload, and mandatory arbitration. Court personnel listed include judges, commissioners, and staff. 7 tables and 7 figures
