This report presents statistics on offenses reported to police in Norway, offenses investigated, sanctions, and imprisonments in 2001.
Abstract
A total of 27,229 offenses were reported to police in 2001 compared to 29,331 in 2000 and 18,721 reported in 1993. Statistics on offenses investigated pertain to those investigations completed in 2001, which means the offense at issue may not have been committed during the statistical year. These statistics address the type and number of offenses investigated, the police district, the scene of the crime, and the number of persons charged. Information is also presented on the charged person's age, sex, citizenship, and place of residence. Data on sanctions cover all legal sanctions registered during the statistical year. Sanctions covered include unconditional imprisonment, conditional imprisonment/postponed sentence, prosecution conditionally dropped, fine, security detention, community service, loss of civil liberty, a previous offender, and principal offense. Data on imprisonments pertain to admissions, releases, the type of sanction that led to imprisonment, and the principal offense for which a person was imprisoned. Extensive tables and appended description of offenses and groups of offenses
