This booklet outlines the investigative services and capabilities of the Toronto Centre of Forensic Sciences (Ontario, Canada).
Abstract
Part 1 describes the structure, purpose, and general function of the Centre. It also outlines general procedures and instructions common to all requests for service. Part 2 presents the services available from each of the Centre's six sections: biology, chemistry, documents, firearms and toolmarks, photography, toxicology, and forensic pathology. For each of these sections, information is provided on (1) evidence collection, preservation, packaging, and special precautions; (2) types and amounts of materials needed for comparison samples; and (3) the significance of possible findings. The final section is a ready reference to the usual type of evidence found in investigations of break and enter and theft, motor vehicle fatalities, fires and explosions, fire deaths, hit and run, homicide and obscure deaths, driving under the influence, and sexual assaults. Appendixes include case submission forms, instructions for the removal of gunshot residue from hands, and a listing of services not provided by the Centre. Tables, figures, and index.
