THE PAMPHLET PROFILES THE 1978 FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES OF THE LAKE VIEW CITIZENS' COUNCIL (LVCC), A COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION SERVING THE LAKE VIEW COMMUNITY OF CHICAGO.
Abstract
THE LVCC, THROUGH THE SUPPORT OF THE COMMUNITY, AND ITS VERY ACTIVE INVOLVEMENT IN COMMUNITY AFFAIRS, HAS MAINTAINED A SUCCESSFUL PROFILE OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS, INCLUDING THE DEFEAT OF AN URBAN RENEWAL PLAN, PREVENTION OF ADDITIONAL HIGH RISE CONSTRUCTION, AND ESTABLISHMENT OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATIONS IN SUCH AREAS AS HOUSING, CHILD CARE, AND LEGAL ASSISTANCE. MEMBERSHIP IS ABOUT 2,000, WITH THE MAJORITY OF THE 48 BOARD MEMBERS ACTIVELY INVOLVED IN FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES. A DETAILED REVIEW OF THE LVCC'S BUDGET PROCESS IS PRESENTED. IN 1978, A TOTAL OF $28,000 WAS RAISED FROM LOCAL BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY. FUNDRAISING BENEFITS HAVE ENCOMPASSED SUCH DIVERSE ACTIVITIES AS AN AQUATHON, A THEATER BENEFIT, AND AN ANNUAL AD BOOK, AS WELL AS A MEMBERSHIP DRIVE FOR INDIVIDUAL CONTRIBUTIONS. THE LVCC'S HIGH LEVEL OF SELF-SUFFICIENCY ENABLES IT TO HAVE SUBSTANTIAL INFLUENCE ON DECISIONS AFFECTING THE COMMUNITY. NINE APPENDIXES OF CHARTS, FORMS, AND LETTERS ARE INCLUDED.
