This article examines the critical issues of the early 1980 Cuban boat lift that brought approximately 125,000 Cuban refugees, political exiles, criminals, illegal aliens, and prison escapees into the United States.
Abstract
A brief historical background is provided explaining the origination of this boat lift and the impact it has had on the American criminal justice system. A profile is presented of the types of individuals who were part of the boat lift. Finally, the impact this boat lift has had on crime in America today is explored. (Author abstract)
