An historical overview of child sexual abuse begins the volume which presents 1) a variety of approaches to child abuse research, 2) the samples and measures used in the studies, 3) the various definitions of child sexual abuse, and 4) the theory guiding the research. The strengths and limitations of research with child victims versus adults molested as children are reviewed along with research using child samples and adult samples. Mediating factors to outcomes for children and prevention strategies are described. Outcomes for male as well as female child victims are examined. The role of the family in treatment, profiles of juvenile sex offenders, and implications for further research are addressed. Tables, figures, references.
