Several methods have been devised to simplify manual searches of fingerprint files to identify latent prints obtained at a crime scene; these methods can be useful in determining which fingers are represented in the developed latent prints, in calculating their probable classifications, and in conducting searches in which the suspect's name is unknown.
Abstract
To apply the latent fingerprint classifier successfully, the user must have some ambition, a thorough understanding of the Henry classification system, and the ability to determine which of the 10 fingerprints is depicted by the developed latent fingerprints. The classifier chart has 10 columns, one for each finger, and 32 rows, one for each of the Henry classification values used in either the numerator or denominator of the Henry primary. The classifier chart enables the user rapidly to calculate the possible Henry primary searches that must be included in a file search of latent prints. Thus, it can readily reduce the search time while providing a thorough examination that includes all fingerprint cards that could contain the suspect.
