Abstract
The book contains case excerpts that highlight a full range of legal issues facing corrections professionals. Book chapters focus on legal aspects of and legal doctrines related to corrections, prisoner rights, examples from news sources that illustrate how corrections law affects the lives of both prisoners and corrections staff, cases from the U.S. Supreme Court and other courts, and excerpts from recent statutes such as the Prison Litigation Reform Act and the Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act. Other book chapters examine discipline and due process, the use of force, conditions of confinement, probation and parole, and jails. Appendixes include the Bill of Rights and the Fourteenth Amendment, forms for filing prisoner civil rights lawsuits, and forms for filing habeas corpus petitions. Notes and tables
