This health care security training program, designed to teach security officers about laws and liability issues affecting them, includes slides and a synchronized audio cassette.
Abstract
It will make security officers more aware that they can be held personally liable in court for their actions, they have the same legal powers as private citizens, and that physical force can be used and arrests can be made only under specific circumstances. The program teaches officers the difference between detention and arrest and between their legal powers and those of police officers. It also familiarizes them with the Miranda warning and suspects' constitutional rights. The program can be used by all types and sizes of health care facilities and for security officers at all levels, as well as for vocational students interested in security as a career. It includes a leader's guide and exercises.
