THE TWO SPEAKERS ON THIS TAPE ASSERT THAT THE NOT UNEXPECTED FAILURE OF EDUCATION TO ALLEVIATE SOCIAL PROBLEMS CAN BE AMELIORATED BY THE INJECTION OF MORE VIGOR IN THE TEACHING OF LAW AND CITIZENSHIP.
Abstract
THE BEST PLACE TO START IS IN THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS. FIRST THE TEACHERS MUST BE MOTIVATED AND INFORMED. A GRANT FROM THE KANSAS GOVERNOR'S OFFICE ESTABLISHED A THREE CREDIT HOUR COURSE IN THE TEACHING OF CONTEMPORARY LAW AT KANSAS STATE INIVERSITY. IT ATTEMPTED TO ERASE OUTMODED IDEAS OF THE LAW. FILMS WERE PRODUCED FOR VIEWING BY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL YOUNGSTERS THAT WERE DESIGNED TO TEACH THEM THAT LAWS, LAW ENFORCEMENT, AND LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL WERE NOT BAD, BUT NECESSARY AND GOOD FOR THE FUNCTIONING OF SOCIETY. ONE OF THE FILMS IS VIEWED BY THE WORKSHOP - THE SOUND TRACK IS AUDIBLE ON THE TAPE.
