Abstract
The material is structured into four modules that discuss aging, victimization, and communication principles, and volunteers in law enforcement. The module on aging explores the graying of America, physical and psychological facts about aging, and effects of these factors on law enforcement activities. The next module focuses on victimization of the elderly. It analyzes the incidence of criminal victimization and its impact on older persons offers recommendations for police countermeasures. A module on communication principles presents methods and techniques to deal with older victims, witnesses, and persons in need of assistance. It also provides guidelines for programming and media relations. The final module, which focuses on volunteers in law enforcement, provides the police practitioner with skills to plan, implement, and monitor volunteer program using older persons in a law enforcement setting. The text's concluding section describes 10 model resources program types and 7 actual cases of law enforcement programs involving older persons as volunteers.
