LAW ENFORCEMENT AND GENERAL COMMUNITY SERVICE ARE CITED AS THE POLICEMAN'S PRIMARY FUNCTIONS IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE. ACCORDINGLY, THE AUTHOR EXPLORES THE PATROL AND TRAFFIC FUNCTIONS, AS WELL AS SEARCH AND SEIZURE AND PRESERVING ORDER. THERE IS A DISCUSSION OF THE POLICE CAREER, FOCUSING ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE OFFICER AND THE POLICE DEPARTMENT. A CHAPTER ON CRIMINOLOGY FOR POLICEMEN IS PRESENTED TO HELP GAIN A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE CAUSES AND EFFECTS OF CRIME AND THE EXTENT TO WHICH POLICE DEPARTMENTS CAN CONTROL IT. VICE, ORGANIZED CRIME, AND JUVENILE DELINQUENCY ARE EXAMPLES OF SPECIAL AREAS OF CONSIDERATION FOR THE POLICEMAN.
