THIS ARTICLE EXAMINES LAW ENFORCEMENT EFFORTS PERTAINING TO ALCOHOL AND DRUG ABUSE AND CONSIDERS ALTERNATIVES TO EXISTING STRATEGIES.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR SUGGESTS THAT, REGARDLESS OF THE OFFENSE, THERE SHOULD BE SOME ACTION OR SANCTION. IN SUCH FIRST OFFENSES, DEPENDING ON THE GRAVITY AND EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES, SOME SORT OF MANDATORY EDUCATIONAL, COMMUNICATIVE, AND EVALUATIVE PROGRAM COULD BE CONDUCTED IN WHICH SOME BASIC UNDERSTANDING OF DRUGS, LAW ENFORCEMENT, PEER PRESSURE, AND ALTERNATIVES TO DRUGS WOULD BE PART OF THE CURRICULUM. ALTERNATIVES TO JAIL FOR ALCOHOL VIOLATORS COULD INCLUDE SIMILAR EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS, DWI (DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED) SCHOOL EVALUATION PROCEDRE, OR THE LIKE....ELW
