Prepared especially for sheriffs and administrative officers in Ohio's 65 small sheriff's departments serving county jurisdictions of less than 100,000 people, this report describes the job requirements and activities of law enforcement officers in these types of departments.
Abstract
Study data came from over 200 officers in 28 of the departments participating in the 1981-82 statewide task analysis study conducted for the Ohio Peace Officer Training Council. Data tables and narrative explanations cover the tasks most frequently and least frequently performed in a variety of areas, the types of equipment used often and seldom, information sources, the usefulness of basic training, physical tasks such as running and crawling, requirements for lifting and carrying, types of resistance encountered, and types of force used to subdue suspects. A list of other publications from the Statistical Analysis Center of the State's Office of Criminal Justice Services is included.
