Abstract
With over 2,500 graduates, the Delinquency Control Institute of the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, Calif., provides specialized training for law enforcement, corrections, probation, and other social service personnel. In Quantico, Va., today's FBI Academy was opened in 1972, but the training course in law enforcement technology and methodology began in 1935, when J. Edgar Hoover initiated the specialized training plan for FBI agents. Today the academy is noted for such innovative training and research programs as Investigative Techniques in Computer-Related Crimes. During a typical year, 70,000 hours of instruction are presented to 175,000 officers. One of the newest international law enforcement training centers, the Institute of Police Traffic Management of the University of North Florida, Jacksonville Fla., specializes in traffic-related programs. Another Florida-based institute, the Organized Crime Institute in Orlando, has graduated over 5,000 officers since its establishment 12 years ago. The Southern Police Institute of Louisville, Ky., offers specialized seminars in such subjects as scientific investigation of homicide and police executive development. Finally, the Traffic Institute of Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill., is the primary trainer of police specialists and administrators in traffic and highway safety and highway engineering. Six photographs and training center addresses are provided.
