COLLECTION OF MATERIALS DESIGNED FOR TEACHER-TRAINING PRESENTING AN OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITY AS A CONCEPT INTRINSIC TO A DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY AND IDENTIFYING SOME OF THE MAJOR ISSUES RELATED TO IT.
Abstract
THE AUTHORS EXAMINE THE NATURE AND IMPORTANCE OF RESPONSIBILITY, THE CRITERIA FOR HOLDING PEOPLE RESPONSIBLE, AND SOME OF THE POSSIBLE USES OF THOSE CRITERIA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF CONFLICTING RESPONSIBILITIES. TO GIVE IT THE BROAD PERSPECTIVE IT DESERVES, THEY HAVE GATHERED MATERIALS FROM EDUCATION, POLITICAL SCIENCE, PSYCHOLOGY, HISTORY, AND LITERATURE, AS WELL AS FROM LAW AND PHILOSOPHY. FROM THIS WIDENED CONTEXT, THE READER MAY GAIN A FULLER APPRECIATION OF THE IMPORTANCE OF RESPONSIBILITY AND AN INCREASED AWARENESS OF ITS SIGNIFICANCE IN BOTH PUBLIC AND PRIVATE LIFE. FOR THE OTHER VOLUMES ON THE CONCEPT OF RESPONSIBILITY, SEE NCJ-12548, 12549, AND 12550. FOR AN OVERVIEW OF THE LAW IN A FREE SOCIETY SERIES, SEE NCJ-12570. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
