THIS ARTICLE DESCRIBES THE COMMISSION'S FOUNDING AND DUTIES, AND PROVIDES INFORMATION ON THE INDIVIDUAL LAW REFORM PROJECTS CURRENTLY IN PROGRESS OR RECENTLY COMPLETED.
Abstract
THE LAW REFORM COMMISSION WAS ESTABLISHED TO REVIEW THE LAW OF BRITISH COLUMBIA, INCLUDING STATUTE LAW, COMMON LAW, AND JUDICIAL DECISIONS, WITH A VIEW TO ITS SYSTEMATIC DEVELOPMENT AND REFORM. BRIEF DESCRIPTIONS OF THE LAW REFORM PROJECTS ARE PROVIDED; STUDIES WERE UNDERTAKEN IN THE AREAS OF DEBTOR-CREDITOR RELATIONSHIPS, CIVIL RIGHTS, STATUTE LAW REVISION, THE STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS, RULES OF EVIDENCE, AND ARBITRATION. STUDIES UNDERTAKEN IN THE AREAS OF CIVIL PROCEDURE, THE POWERS OF ATTORNEY, TESTAMENTARY PROMISES, MINORS' CONTRACTS, SECURITY INTERESTS IN REAL PROPERTY, AND SURVIVORSHIP AND PRESUMPTION OF DEATH ARE REVIEWED AS WELL. THE APPENDIXES CONTAIN A LIST OF REPORTS MADE TH THE LAW REFORM COMMISSION AND A CHART OF MATTERS UNDER CONSIDERATION BY THE COMMISSION.
