A SUMMARY OF COMMISSION ACTIVITIES, A DESCRIPTION OF COMMISSION WORKING PAPERS ON LAW REFORMS, AN OVERVIEW OF COMMISSION PROJECTS, AND A LIST OF RESEARCH STAFF.
Abstract
THE GENERAL PHILOSOPHY OF THE LAW REFORM COMMISSION IS FIRST DEFINED. FOUR GENERAL WORKING PAPERS WERE PRODUCED IN THIS REPORT YEAR ON THE TOPICS OF THE FAMILY COURT, STRICT LIABILITY OF LAW, SENTENCING AND PRETRIAL DISCOVERY. THE ISSUES RAISED IN EACH OF THESE PAPERS ARE BRIEFLY OUTLINED. SUCH EFFORTS AS COMMUNITY STUDY GROUPS, SPECIAL NEWSPAPER COVERAGE, A STUDY ON MAKING LAW MORE UNDERSTANDABLE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC, AND A WORKSHOP FOR HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS INTERESTED IN TEACHING LAW ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. THE COMMISSION SPONSORS PROJECTS IN THE AREAS OF: GENERAL PRINCIPLES OF CRIMINAL LAW AND PROHIBITED AND REGULATED CONDUCT; CRIMINAL PROCEDURE; SENTENCING; EVIDENCE; FAMILY LAW; ADMINISTRATIVE LAW; THE LAW OF EXPROPRIATION; ASPECTS OF COMMERCIAL LAW; AND ONGOING MODERNIZATION OF STATUTES. PROGRESS IN EACH OF THESE AREAS IS DESCRIBED. FINALLY, A LIST OF IN-HOUSE STUDIES AND OUTSIDE STUDIES COMMISSIONED DURING 1973-74 IS PROVIDED. --IN FRENCH AND ENGLISH
