Using a question-and-answer format, this booklet summarizes Illinois laws that apply to young people, with attention to driving, criminal law, drug and alcohol use, employment, marriage, and school.
Abstract
Laws that govern bicycling, hitchhiking, and driving age are explained. Issues covered under criminal law include application of adult criminal laws to juveniles, the juvenile court, right of appeal, and major criminal laws other than Index crimes that are more applicable to young people. Laws on smoking, drinking alcoholic beverages, drunk driving, and marijuana use are presented. The pamphlet details penalties for possession of other drugs. Additional areas discussed are laws restricting work for youth under 16, marriage, parents' responsibilities to children, school attendance requirements, and teachers' and principals' powers. The guide explains sexual abuse and types of sexual conduct that are considered crimes. Relevant Illinois statutes are referenced.
