THE COMPLIMENTARY ROLES OF ADMINISTRATIVE LAY BOARDS AND CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTIONS IS DESCRIBED.
Abstract
BROAD COMMUNITY INTERESTS ARE REPRESENTED AND SAFEGUARDED BY LAY BOARDS. THE FIELD OF CORRECTIONS HAS UTILIZED LAY BOARDS BUT MUCH MISUNDERSTANDING EXISTS. MYTHS CONCERNING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CORRECTIONS AND SUCCESSFUL REHABILITATION ARE TOO PERVASIVE. THE FUTURE OF CORRECTIONAL SUCCESS DEPENDS UPON THE DEVELOPMENT OF INTEGRATED, BALANCED STATE CORRECTIONAL SYSTEMS. THE CRIME TRENDS NECESSITATE A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE LAY BOARDS POTENTIAL FOR COMMUNITY AND SOCIAL CHANGE.
