THE REPORT DESCRIBES LEAA'S FINANCIAL, TECHNICAL, AND RESEARCH SUPPORT PROGRAMS AND OTHER ACTIVITIES, AND SUMMARIZES EACH STATE'S CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM IMPROVEMENT PLAN AND INNOVATIVE PROGRAMS AND POLICIES.
Abstract
THE FUNCTIONS, ACTIVITIES, AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF EACH OF LEAA'S MAJOR DIVISIONS ARE BRIEFLY DESCRIBED, INCLUDING THE OFFICE OF JUVENILE JUSTICE AND DELINQUENCY PREVENTION, NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF LAW ENFORCEMENT AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE, NATIONAL CRIMINAL JUSTICE INFORMATION AND STATISTICS SERVICE, AND OFFICE OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE EDUCATION AND TRAINING. MOST OF THE REPORT DESCRIBES LEAA'S WORK DURING FISCAL YEAR 1977 AS REQUIRED UNDER SECTION 519 OF THE CRIME CONTROL ACT OF 1976. LEAA-SPONSORED PROGRAM ACTIVITIES IN EACH STATE ARE REPORTED BY PROGRAM COMPONENT; I.E., PREVENTION, ENFORCEMENT, ADJUDICATION, CORRECTIONS, AND SYSTEM SUPPORT. EACH STATE'S ACTIVITIES IN THE FIELDS OF JUVENILE JUSTICE AND DELINQUENCY PREVENTION, AS WELL AS DRUG ABUSE PROGRAMS, ARE ALSO SUMMARIZED. OTHER REPORTS REQUIRED UNDER THE ACT ARE PROVIDED, INCLUDING DESCRIPTIONS OF INNOVATIVE PROGRAMS AND CORRESPONDING EXPENDITURES, AN EXPLANATION OF LEAA EVALUATION PROCEDURES, A SUMMARY OF THE NUMBER OF STATE PLANS ACCEPTED AND CHANGES RECOMMENDED, LISTS OF UNEXPENDED LEAA FUNDS BY STATE, AND EXPLANATIONS OF FUNDS EXPENDED BY LEAA.
