THE RESULTS OF A TEST FOR ABNORMAL ATMOSPHERIC LEAD CONCENTRATIONS AT THE ORLANDO, FLORIDA POLICE INDOOR FIRING RANGE REVEAL THAT POTENTIALLY TOXIC CONCENTRATIONS ARE PRESENT DUE TO FAULTY VENTILATION DESIGN.
Abstract
THE PERSON SERVING AS RANGE OFFICER WAS FOUND TO EXPERIENCE A SIGNIFICANT RISK OF DEVELOPING OVERT LEAD INTOXICATION. THE STUDY GROUP RECOMMENDED SOME CHANGES THAT WERE IMPLEMENTED AND DISCUSSED IN A FOLLOW-UP STUDY WHICH ALSO APPEARS IN THIS DOCUMENT. AS A RESULT OF THE CHANGES, ONLY TWO OF THE FOLLOW-UP SAMPLES CONTAINED DANGEROUS AMOUNTS OF LEAD AND THESE WERE ATTRIBUTED TO FAULTY MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES ON THE DAY THE SAMPLES WERE TAKEN.
