This video, accompanied by an instructor's guide, identifies 10 leadership practices, explains the use and applications of the practices in a criminal justice environment, and assesses leadership strengths and areas for improvement among participants.
Abstract
The video introduces each of the 10 leadership practices with a brief description, followed by current correctional and juvenile justice leaders' comments regarding the practice. The 10 leadership practices are inspiring a shared vision, modeling the way, enabling others to act, encouraging the heart, challenging the process, changing, influencing, collaborating, participating in the political arena, and interacting with the media. Aspects of each of these steps are discussed by the narrator and managers in the field of corrections and juvenile justice. The accompanying guide contains questions for discussion and formats for participant activities. A section for participants' resources includes a note-taking guide for viewers, "calls to action," and a summary of narrator's and presenters' comments. The final section of the guide outlines the development and components of a leadership model in criminal justice. 36 references
