This report describes the activities for fiscal year 1992 of the Legal Aid Society, a private, nonprofit legal services agency dedicated since 1876 to providing quality legal representation to persons in New York who cannot afford to pay a lawyer.
Abstract
Governed by a board of directors, the agency has a full-time staff of more than 1,000 attorneys who provide legal assistance to approximately 300,000 people a year in all courts in New York City, in the State and Federal appellate courts, and in the United States Supreme Court. The agency's activities are supported by government funds as well as contributions from law firms, foundations, and individuals. The agency's budget is $125 million.
