Abstract
This book is intended as an easy-to-read reference book on how even slight changes in criminal law can affect the legal system. The book has 14 chapters divided into 3 sections. Part One: Criminal Law Explained, contains six chapters that cover The Evolution of Law, Crimes Defined, Crimes Against the Person, Cops and Robbers and More, Behind Enemy Lines, and Defenses, Justification, and Excuse. These chapters present a history of law, define criminal conduct, and explain the tools that attorneys use in their practice. Part Two: Criminal Procedure and Evidence contains four chapters that cover Arrest, Search, and Seizure; Rights of the Accused; Men in Blue; and Resume of a Prosecution. These chapters detail the steps required to institute constitutional search, seizure, and arrest, and present information on the duties and responsibilities of prosecutors, defense attorneys, and law enforcement and court personnel. Part Three: A Walk Through the Justice System contains four chapters that cover Arrest, Charges, and Booking; Juvenile Justice: Differences; Preliminaries; and Anatomy of a Trial. These chapters detail each step in the trial process, from jury selection through to the verdict and sentencing and on to the appeal process.
