THE UNION OF SOVIET SOCIALIST REPUBLICS POSSESSES A WIDE NETWORK OF INSTITUTIONS ENGAGED IN TRAINING ATTORNEYS AND CONDUCTING RESEARCH ON JURIDICAL SCIENCE ISSUES.
Abstract
IN ADDITION TO THE TRAINING OF LAWYERS, THE LAW SCHOOLS, JURIDICAL INSTITUTES, AND STATE ACADEMIES PROVIDE A SOURCE OF EXPERT OPINION FOR BOTH THE COURTS AND ADMINISTRATIVE AGENCIES. LAW PROFESSORS RESEARCH SIGNIFICANT ISSUES, WRITE MONOGRAPHS, AND OFTEN HELP DRAFT NEW LAWS. THE INTEREST IN JURIDICAL SCIENCE AND EDUCATION HAS INCREASED DRAMATICALLY SINCE THE 1960'S. OVER THE LAST TWO DECADES THE NUMBER OF SCHOLARS AND RESEARCHERS HAS INCREASED MORE THAN FOUR TIMES. AT PRESENT, THERE ARE ABOUT 5,000 SCHOLARS AND RESEARCHERS IN THE FIELD OF LAW THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY. OVER 360 PERSONS HOLD DOCTORAL DEGREES AND 2,500 ARE CANDIDATES OF LAW, A POSTGRADUATE DEGREE. IN 1974, OVER 90,000 STUDENTS WERE STUDYING LAW AT THE UNIVERSITIES AND INSTITUTES, 1.5 TIMES AS MANY AS IN 1964. ABOUT 70 PERCENT OF THESE ATTORNEYS WILL BE HIRED BY LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES, 10 PERCENT BY STATE ADMINISTRATIONS, AAND 20 PERCENT BY VARIOUS ECONOMIC ENTERPRISES. NUMEROUS INSTITUTES EXIST FOR INSERVICE AND SPECIALIZED POSTGRADUATE TRAINING. (GLR)
