FULL LEGAL PROTECTION IS URGED FOR MENTALLY RETARDED CHILDREN AND ADULTS.
Abstract
A STUDY OF THE IMPACT OF THE LAW ON THE LIVES OF MENTALLY RETARDED PERSONS AND THEIR FAMILIES. THE STUDY IS CONCERNED WITH THREE OBJECTIVES: UNDERSTANDING THE THEORETICAL BASIS FOR REQUIRING COURT COMMITMENT AS A PART OF THE HOSPITAL ADMISSION PROCESS, DETERMINING TO WHAT EXTENT LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS MOTIVATE PARENTS IN PLACING CHILDREN IN INSTITUTIONS, AND ASCERTAINING HOW THE RELATIVELY INFLEXIBLE CONCEPT OF LEGAL GUARDIANSHIP COULD BE ALTERED SO THAT IT COULD BETTER SERVE INDIVIDUAL NEEDS.
