LEGISLATION MANDATING OR AUTHORIZING THE CREATION OF MULTIDISCIPLINARY/MULTI-AGENCY CHILD PROTECTION TEAMS

NCJ Number
143442
Date Published
1992
Length
22 pages
Annotation
This document lists and summarizes, current through 1991, all State statutes, excluding military and tribal laws, that encourage or mandate multidisciplinary reviews of child abuse cases.
Abstract
In many cases, the teams comprise representatives from the local health field, mental health services, local social service agencies, law enforcement, prosecutors' offices, educational agencies, and lawyers. Many of these statutes outline the proposed functions of the multi-agency teams. These functions may include providing comprehensive medical and psychological programs to identify and diagnose victims of child abuse, providing case service coordination and assistance, and providing educational and community awareness campaigns on child abuse and neglect. Several laws create a children's advocacy program or children's trust account board.
