STUDY OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN LEISURE ACTIVITIES, LEISURE GOALS, AND JUVENILE DELINQUENCY COMPARING MERTON'S CONCEPT OF ANOMIE WITH COHEN'S SUBCULTURAL APPROACH.
Abstract
STUDIED WERE THREE GROUPS IN WEST GERMANY WITH DIFFERENT DEGREES OF DELINQUENT BEHAVIOR: JUVENILE CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION INMATES, JUVENILE HOME RESIDENTS, AND NON-DELINQUENTS. ACCORDING TO THE HYPOTHESES, THE RESULTS SHOWED SIMILAR LEISURE GOALS IN ALL THREE SAMPLES BUT MARKED DIFFERENCIES IN ACTUAL LEISURE ACTIVITIES. AS POSTULATED FURTHER, NON-DELINQUENTS REPORTED THE HIGHEST CONSONANCE BETWEEN LEISURE GOALS AND LEISURE ACTIVITIES. IN THE SAMPLE OF JUVENILE PRISONERS, HOWEVER, THERE WAS MORE CONGRUENCY BETWEEN GOALS AND BEHAVIOR AS IN THE SAMPLE OF CORRECTIONAL INMATES. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED) --IN GERMAN. SUMMARY IN ENGLISH
