This master site plan for the new Leon County Jail (Florida) is based upon four jail overcrowding reports, an evaluation of the existing jail, the evaluation of 25 potential sites, a report on master plan issues, and a jail needs assessment.
Abstract
Following summaries of the various reports on which the master site plan is based, an aerial view of the site plan is presented, along with a site analysis map and a cross sectional view of the site. The proposed site is an undeveloped area of 54 acres at the west end of Tom Brown Park in the eastern part of the city. A brief description of the site addresses the realignment of a proposed parkway, access, general site organization, site grading, jail organization, and the image of the complex. An overview of the preliminary jail program requirements covers the number of beds (1,214), program elements (inmate processing, facility operations, program facilities, health service, and support services), space summary, staffing, and expansion. The preliminary requirements for the Sheriff's Department's and Public Works Department's facilities are also presented, since these facilities are to be located on the same site as the jail. Parking and budget are also discussed.
