This article describes the new, compact TASER X26, a less-lethal police weapon.
Abstract
Less-lethal weapons are popular items among law enforcement agencies, with more and more officers being issued such weapons. TASER International recognized the need to develop a compact version of its popular TASER and thus created the smaller, lighter TASER X26. The widespread deployment of the TASER X26 in Florida and Arizona police agencies has dramatically reduced the number of injuries to both suspects and police officers. TASER International has also developed a version of the TASER X26 for personal defense, called the TASER X26c Citizen’s Defense System, which requires registration under the Anti-Felon Identification System. The way in which the TASER X26 delivers less-lethal force is described, as is the design of the smaller weapon. The accuracy of the TASER X26 is described as much better than other TASERs. While the TASER X26 is a new device, it has been extensively safety tested and has even been applied directly to the surface of the heart without causing damage. Test and evaluation units are available, as are command staff demonstrations.
