This manual presents 23 lessons designed to develop and reinforce skills in conflict resolution and intended for use as a unit for students in grades 4-6 in a classroom curriculum or in conjunction with a peer mediation program.
Abstract
The lessons are recommended for use over 6-10 weeks at the beginning of the school year. The lessons are presented in six sessions: understanding conflict, understanding feelings, managing anger, problemsolving, and the mediation process. Each section builds on the previous one, and students are asked to put all the skills together in the final negotiation exercises. At the end of each section, suggestions are provided for modeling and reinforcing the skills during the school year. Each lesson outline describes the time and materials needed, the learning objectives, and the specific procedures. Handouts and sample activities are included. Lists of resource organizations and children's books, order form, and 63 references
