Written for people of average reading ability, this book explains the problem of child sexual abuse in British Columbia, Canada, and how communities can organize to do something about the problem.
Abstract
The book is designed for parents, teachers, teenagers, grandparents, community workers, and anyone who wants to help children. The first chapter explores how victims of child sexual abuse cope, while the second chapter covers Canada's child protection system (social services and housing) and legal system (police and courts). The third chapter examines local actions that can be taken to deal with child sexual abuse and lists steps involved in community organizing. The final chapter gives ideas for prevention programs, support groups, and other healing resources. Appendixes include a bibliography, sources of information about child protection in Canada, interviewing guidelines for social workers, and a glossary. Illustrations
