Written from a Christian perspective by an Amityville Dominican Sister who is a survivor of incest, rape, and sexual assaults, this volume uses poetry, passages from the Bible, imagery, and anecdotes to aid adult survivors of sex offenses to understand and deal with sexual assault trauma and to provide ministers and friends of sexual assault victims with an understanding of these issues.
Abstract
The text focuses on the psychological and spiritual issues experienced by sexual assault victims, the long-term effects of sexual abuse on the adult survivor's current life, and the process of recovery. It notes that 90 percent of survivors deal with some type of depressive disorder, 85 percent have an alcohol or drug addiction, and 75 percent have attempted suicide. The volume also provides practical suggestions and guidelines for use by both survivors and ministers in addressing these and other issues.
