A monograph including literature published between 1913 and 1980 which focuses on judicial selection is presented; articles about State, Federal and foreign selection practices as well as books are specified.
Abstract
The work includes the most insightful materials for use by practitioners and academics which could be located. It omits articles in newspapers and general interest periodicals, speeches, and testimony before legislative bodies. The four major topics, State selection, Federal selection, selection in foreign nations, and books, contain entries arranged in alphabetical order according to the author's last name. Author, title, title of publication containing the article, date, and page are specified. Brief annotations are included with each entry. The entry 'Brand, 'Judicial Selection,' 30 Neb. L. Rev. 195 (1951)' is an example of this uniform format. In addition, the first three major topics are further categorized by more specific subject matter. State judicial selection entries include the subjects of overview, election, appointment, nominating commission plans, the California postscreening plan, plans to evaluate judicial candidates, and the role of the bar associations. Federal judicial selection focuses on appointment and nominating commission plans. Foreign nations materials are arranged according to appointment, examination, and miscellaneous subjects. Books are arranged in alphabetical order according to the author's last name and annotations are provided. An author index is included in the monograph.
