This document describes an Australian project to identify strategies to reduce violence and crime among disadvantaged and homeless young people.
Abstract
This report proposes three options for the government. Option 1 draws on the skills and resources of a group of workers across Australia who have particular expertise in working with homeless young people and addressing their involvement in criminal activities, whether as victims or perpetrators. These workers would document and analyze case studies and models, develop a "Best Practice Tool Kit" for use in the field, conduct seminars and workshops to promote the kit, and act as mentors to others developing strategies. Option 2 would focus on identifying successful projects in key areas and replicating them in other locations. Option 3 would focus on strategies and models that address homeless young people as victims. The report recommends Option 1 as having the greatest impact across a number of sectors with the possibility of ongoing sustainability. Tables, appendixes
