A COMPUTERIZED DIRECTORY OF LOCAL CRIME PREVENTION AND VICTIM ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES IS PRESENTED; ALL PROJECTS OFFERING SERVICES TO THE PUBLIC IN GENERAL ARE INCLUDED.
Abstract
PREPARED UNDER AN LEAA GRANT, THE INTENTION IN COMPILING THE DIRECTORY WAS TO UNCOVER ALL THE RESOURCES IN CRIME PREVENTION AND VICTIM ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE TO THE ELDERLY IN LOCAL COMMUNITIES. THE DIRECTORY IS NOT LIMITED TO THOSE PROJECTS WHICH FOCUS ONLY ON SENIOR CITIZENS, HOWEVER, ALL CRIME PREVENTION OR VICTIM SERVICES TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC INCLUDING THE ELDERLY ARE LISTED. THE DIRECTORY CITES SOME 1,900 LOCAL PROGRAMS WHICH WERE IDENTIFIED OVER A 1-YEAR PERIOD, ENDING DECEMBER 31,1978. THE STAFF CONTACTED THE DIRECTORS OF 473 OF THESE PROGRAMS BY TELEPHONE TO DETERMINE THE NATURE OF THEIR SERVICES AND FUNDING. TELEPHONE INTERVIEW WORKSHEETS DESCRIBING THE PROJECTS WERE MAILED TO THE SOURCES FOR VERIFICATION OF INFORMATION. THE PROJECTS ARE LISTED ALPHABETICALLY WITHIN ZIP CODES. THEY ARE ALL GIVEN A THREE-LETTER CODE TO INDICATE TYPE OF PROJECT, SUCH AS LEAA COMMUNITY ANTI-CRIME PROGRAMS, COMMUNITY CRIME PREVENTION PROGRAMS, SENIOR CITIZEN CENTERS, AND VICTIM WITNESS PROGRAMS. PROGRAMS SURVEYED WHOSE WORKSHEETS ARE INCLUDED IN THE APPENDIX ARE SO INDICATED. THE USER IS ABLE TO SEE WHAT RESOURCES ARE AVAILABLE IN ANY GEOGRAPHIC AREA OF THE UNITED STATES. THIS DOCUMENT IS A PRINTOUT OF A SECTION OF THE DIRECTORY. (LWM)
