INVESTIGATION OF THE FEASIBILITY OF USING AN AUTOMATED SYSTEM TO LOCATE AND REPORT ON THE STATUS OF POLICE VEHICLES IN MEDIUM AND SMALLER-SIZED CITIES.
Abstract
SUMMARIZED ARE THE ISSUES THAT FACE THE POLICE WORLD IN IMPLEMENTING THE TECHNOLOGICAL CHANGES BROUGHT ABOUT BY THE MILITARY-SCIENTIFIC COMBINE. A COMPILATION OF THE MAJOR RESULTS AND FINDINGS ACCOMPLISHED AS A RESULT OF THE LOCATES PROJECT IS PRESENTED. RECOMMENDATIONS ARE MADE REGARDING THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE AUTOMATIC VEHICLE LOCATION AND STATUS REPORTING SYSTEM (AVL) IN MONTCLAIR, CALIFORNIA, AS WELL AS FUTURE APPLICATION IN OTHER MEDIUM-SIZE AND SMALLER CITIES. THE REPORT DETAILS INFORMATION OF AN OPERATIONS ANALYSIS OF THE MODEL CITY, MONTCLAIR. ALSO PROVIDED IS A REVIEW OF APPLICABLE TECHNOLOGY, CONTAINING COST INFORMATION ON ALL ELEMENTS OF AVL SYSTEMS OF VARIOUS SIZES AND DESCRIPTIONS OF ALL THE TYPES OF AVL SYSTEMS THAT HAVE BEEN, OR ARE IN THE PROCESS OF BEING DEVELOPED. APPENDED MATERIAL INCLUDES A LISTING OF SOURCES TO BE CONTACTED CONCERNING THE SUBJECT OF AVL SYSTEMS, A GLOSSARY OF COMMONLY USED TERMS PERTAINING TO SUCH SYSTEMS AND A LIST OF REFERENCES.
