The methodology and findings of 54 longitudinal studies relevant to primary prevention of delinquency are described.
Abstract
The design and instruments used in each research project are described, along with the objectives and a summary of the findings of the research. Studies described in the first section cover such topics as child health and development, a neuropsychiatric followup of children in the collaborative perinatal project population, the psychosocial development of aggressive behavior, academic prediction and growth, an epidemiological study of the behavioral problems of young children, self-attitudes and deviant responses, family and peer processes in adolescent drug use, and early signs of delinquency and related behavioral difficulties. The longitudinal studies described in the second section of the volume explore such topics as adult development, older workers in rural areas, transitions, the first 3 years of first and second marriages, patterns of child rearing, the hyperkinetic child, life assessment of discharged chronic schizophrenics, delinquency and school dropouts, and children at risk for schizophrenia. References and tabular data accompany the study descriptions.
