Abstract
THE ROLE AND DUTIES OF THE PROBATION OFFICER ARE OUTLINED. IT IS STATED THAT APPROXIMATELY 20,000 JUVENILES AND 40,000 ADULTS ARE UNDER THE GUIDANCE, SUPERVISION, OR CARE OF PROBATION DEPARTMENT EMPLOYEES WHO WORK IN 36 FIELD SERVICE OFFICES AND SUBOFFICES, THREE JUVENILE DETENTION FACILITIES, 11 BOY'S CAMPS, TWO GIRLS' SCHOOLS, SEVEN COMMUNITY DAY CARE CENTERS AND SEVEN CAMP AFTERCARE UNITS. AMONG THE PROGRAMS DESCRIBED IN THIS BOOKLET ARE THE WORK FURLOUGH PROGRAM, THE NARCOTIC TREATMENT CONTROL UNIT, THE CONCENTRATED EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM, THE MEXICAN OPPORTUNITIES FOUNDATION, AND VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS SUCH AS THE COMMUNITY ORIENTED YOUTHFUL OFFENDER PROGRAM OR THE VOLUNTEERS IN SERVICE TO OFFENDERS PROGRAM.
