Abstract
AMONG THE LOS ANGELES FORCE'S COMMUNITY RELATIONS PROJECTS ARE AN ANNUAL POLICE WEEK, A JUDGE-POLICE LUNCHEON CLUB, AND POLICE-CLERGY AND POLICE-STUDENT COUNCIL MEETINGS. EIGHT SPECIALLY TRAINED POLICE OFFICERS SERVE FULL TIME AS ASSISTANT INSTRUCTORS FOR HIGH SCHOOL GOVERNMENT COURSES. THE POLICE STUDENT WORKER PROGRAM EMPLOYS 200 JUNIOR COLLEGE STUDENTS EACH YEAR AS PART-TIME POLICE AIDS. ON 'ANNUAL BOYS DAY IN GOVERNMENT,' SOME 90 STUDENTS OCCUPY VARIOUS STAFF AND COMMAND POSITIONS WITHIN THE DEPARTMENT. THE LAW ENFORCEMENT EXPLORER PROJECT, AFFILIATED WITH THE BOY SCOUT AND GIRL GUIDE ORGANIZATIONS, EMPHASIZES GOOD CITIZENSHIP AND CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT FOR YOUTH. OTHER COMMUNITY-ORIENTED ACTIVITIES INCLUDE A DEPUTY AUXILIARY POLICE PROGRAM FOR APPROXIMATELY 750 BOYS AND GIRLS, POLICE RESERVE AND AUXILIARY PROGRAMS FOR ADULTS, AN ANNUAL SUMMER CAMPING PROGRAM, ATHLETIC AND SPECIAL EVETS UNITS, A SUMMER MOVIE PROJECT FOR CHILDREN, JOB PLACEMENT PROGRAMS FOR YOUTH, AND A COMMUNITY LIAISON PROGRAM.
